With a limited and numbered edition of 1,000 vehicles honoring the lunar calendar, Vespa 946 is marking its tenth anniversary. A breakthrough in creativity that launches a collection that will showcase the animal of the year for the following 12 years.
The use of aluminium in the 946 design is the largest innovation, aside from the appearance. Vespa used this pricey but lightweight material to create the side panels, fenders, seat, and handlebar covers. Vespas have historically had a steel monocoque body that also serves as the frame. Although competitor scooters with steel frames but plastic panels have traditionally been heavier than this design, Vespa's usage of aluminium closes the gap in this area.
